Youth With A Mission

Youth With A Mission (also known as YWAM - pronounced WHY-wham) is a global movement of Christians from many cultures, age groups, and Christian traditions, dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. We unite in a common purpose to know God and to make Him known.

Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to get youth involved in missions. Today, we still focus on youth, and we also involve people aged 9 to 90. We currently work in more than 1,100 locations in over 180 countries, with a staff of over 18,000.

One of the joys of participating in YWAM is to work with people from many nations. YWAM’s staff (known as “YWAMers”) come from over 130 countries, including places like Indonesia, Nepal, Mozambique, and Colombia.

YWAM is probably most well-known for Discipleship Training Schools.

These schools seek to bring you into a more intimate relationship with God. They also give you an opportunity to discover your passions and your part in God’s purposes for the world. It is for those who long to follow Jesus in new ways with a different perspective.

The course is a full-time program and lasts five or six months. It consists of two parts: lecture phase and outreach phase. In the lecture phase, you will learn more about God and His world. You’ll learn not only from lectures but also from community living and practical training. The outreach phase focuses on applying what you learned in the classroom through an intense, cross-cultural experience.

YWAM Toowoomba

Toowoomba is small, but growing, town in Queensland, Australia. I have fallen in love with this city. There's a real sense of community here and an appreciation for the arts. Toowoomba puts a lot of emphasis on beauty, known as "The Garden City" and supports local musicians and artists.

Our base sits on the top of a cliff face overlooking Toowoomba below. We're about a 45 minute walk from downtown and a short drive from Tabletop Mountain. Its a perfect location for watching sunrises, sunsets, and stars by night.

YWAM Toowoomba focuses on Worship and Creativity. Currently there are three schools; Music & Worship, Prayer & Worship, and Creative Justice. All of the staff are musicians and/or artists who have a passion to disciple, encourage creativity, and minister through the gifts God has given them.

We have a few other ministries, such as Campfires; a biweekly event we put on which gives local musicians and songwriters an opportunity to gig and share their music with the public. A lot of amazing artists have been discovered through Campfires and its an opportunity to get involved with the community in a big way.

I am on our Rural & Coastal ministry this season. We, as a team, will get involved with various ministries, churches, organization, and participate/put on local events. We will be traveling within Queensland to outback rural and coastal villages, towns, and cities. Our schedule is still being planned at the time so I don't know exactly what our ministry will look like. Stay updated to find out!
